Heidi Gallery at JSDD is proud to announce the annual juried exhibition, The WAE Open – 2024.
The WAE Open is not thematic; rather, the exhibition seeks to showcase the highest quality visual art being made by established, emerging, and underrepresented artists.

Carolyn Dorfman Dance Performance

CDD brings its popular “Back Stage Pass” lecture/performance to Heidi Gallery. Ekphrastic Poetry Workshop
Sunday, November 3, 2024: 2pm – 4pm
“Writing Ekphrastic Poems: An Afternoon of Artistic Synergy”
In this 2.5-hour workshop, participants will have the opportunity to write ekphrastic poems using art from the Heidi Gallery’s WAE Open exhibit as inspiration.

Ekphrastic Poetry Performance

Closing Reception and Artist Walk & Talk
Sunday, December 8th, 2024: 2pm – 4pm
Meet the artists and learn about their insights and process.
JUROR: Nigel Freeman is the director of African American Art at Swann Auction Galleries, supervising sales of works by Elizabeth Catlett, Hughie Lee-Smith, and Faith Ringgold, to name a few. He is also a print appraiser on the PBS show: Antiques Roadshow, has lectured and been interviewed by art institutions and publications, as well as PBS and the BBC. He has a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and Art from Brown University and a Master of Fine Arts degree from Columbia University.
JUROR: Tricia Laughlin Bloom is the Senior Curator of American Art at the Newark Museum of Art. She has been the lead curator of American Art at the museum since 2015. A specialist in modern and contemporary art, she holds a Masters degree in 19th and 20th Century Art Criticism and Theory from SUNY Stony Brook, and a PhD in Modern and Contemporary Art from Rutgers University.
