Celebrating Shabbat with Temple Ner Tamid

The first Shabbat of 2025 was a joyful and meaningful gathering for JSDD residents at Temple New Tamid. The evening began with a warm welcome, as attendees joined together in song led by Cantor Greenberg and her guitar. The lighting of the Shabbat candles by Rachel and Stacy was a special moment, followed by Todd blessing the grape juice and Daniel offering the blessing over the challah.

A delicious dinner was shared featuring brisket, salmon, and green beans, accompanied by Hanukkah treats such as cookies, fruit, and traditional jelly donuts. During the meal, participants reflected on the theme of spreading light in the world. Daniel shared his joy in lighting Hanukkah candles at his group home earlier in the week and spoke about his daily efforts to foster kindness. Todd expressed hope and prayers for peace in Israel, and Stacy extended gratitude for Temple Ner Tamid’s hospitality and generosity.

After dinner, attendees joined the congregation for a Shabbat service. Mark shared how much he enjoyed praying with others, Daniel sang with enthusiasm, and Todd described the service as both inspiring and memorable. The service provided a moment for reflection on the weekly Torah portion, emphasizing the importance of dreams, self-reflection, and connection with G-d.

The celebration was a heartfelt occasion, bringing together individuals to honor Shabbat and Hanukkah in a spirit of unity. It was a reminder of the power of community, tradition, and shared purpose in enriching our lives and the world around us.
