It was a pleasure to speak with Shila B., Assistant Manager in the Millburn home. She has worked for JSDD for an amazing 9 years! When she first started working as a DSP in 2011, she didn’t think the job would find her loving the work as much as she does. “The residents become my family and I love them”, said Shila. Nothing makes Shila happier than when they tell her they love her, and she knows it is truly genuine.
In these challenging times Shila has been instrumental in assisting the residents with new daily routines. When they go outside for a walk accompanied by staff on a gorgeous sunny day, only two can go at a time. Daily classes are now done virtually to participate in WAE-to Connect offerings via Zoom. “When creating art projects, the residents are enthusiastic”, said Shila. Email and FaceTime are utilized to stay in touch with families and be able to share their art creations. This year on Mother’s Day it was especially sweet when residents contacted their Mothers and Sisters to share cards and good wishes via FaceTime.
