JSDD residents and guest welcomed the Sabbath by joyfully greeting each other saying “Shabbat Shalom!”
This Friday night Yael ushered in Shabbat by lighting two white Sabbath candles and reciting the prayer. Aaron preceded with the reciting the Kiddush – blessing over grape juice and Daniel said the Hamotzi – blessing over the Challah.
This week’s lesson taught by Hagit Oren, Judaic Coordinator, reflected on the past week’s celebration of International Women’s Day on March 8, 2021. This day highlights the mission to help forge a gender equal world. Hagit showed a video about Ruth Bader Ginsburg, former Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States, followed by a discussion of her accomplishments. Several residents said they are inspired by RBG and how she was active with human rights and helped so many people, making a real difference in our society.
The group expressed their anticipation for the upcoming holiday of Passover and are looking forward to gathering on Zoom with Hagit for a traditional JSDD Passover Seder for a second year.
